Effect of egg size on hatching quality and post-hatch performance of indigenous chickens

The experiment was designed to evaluate the effect of egg size on hatching quality and post-hatch growth performance normal feathered indigenous chickens. Hatchable eggs, grouped into three sizes: medium/control, small large, were incubated obtain day-old chicks. One hundred eighty (180) chicks allotted treatment groups according sizes from which they hatched. Egg significantly (p<0.05) influenced chick weight. Chicks hatched large eggs heaviest (36.89g) while those obtained ones smallest (31.02g). Daily rate (DGR) progressive uniform in both cockerels pullets first 8 weeks life across groups. It concluded that size, though could determine weight, but not a good predictor chickens
